This Is Going To End Bad...

Charlie Sheen, Natalie Kenly

Okay Charlie. We get it. You got mad issues. And you think your winning.
Last time I checked. Being unemployed, losing your kids and job and being made fun of in the opening skit of SNL does not constitute "winning".

Also wielding a machete on top of a building like you did last night is not helping your cause.
Get help.

YAY!

Impressive

Check out the following performance from Florence and the Machine at the Sirius XM studios recorded last year. I know I have posted this song on this page before, but not this version....

This one had me actually clapping at my desk after.
Impressive. Did I mention that someone is rocking the harp? Cause they are

The Dog Days Are Over!!!

Miley On SNL...."Pretty Cool"

Okay, I am smart enough to know when to admit to a mistake, and last week I made a big one.

If you remember I pointed out that I was terrified to see that Miley Cyrus was hosting Saturday Night Live. I thought the show would tank and well I thought the reason being was that Miley would not have the a. comedy chops b. balls to pull off this type of show.

Well, I was wrong. As she likes to put it... the entire thing was "pretty cool".

I was not only impressed with the way that she came out in the opening monologue and pretty much put all her critics to shame. She talked about the minor scandals that have plagued her life but made sure to point out "shes not perfect". I thought they couldn't have written it better. As Charlie Sheen would say..."winner".

Then when it came time for her skits she did me proud by making fun of the man himself. Justin Beiber. She proved she not only had the comedy chops, but the timing and voice to pull it all off.

So I'm wrong. Miley Cyrus was a good host. (especially compared to some of the duds we have had this season). Foot inserted into mouth.

Jennifer Aniston - Smart Water

Jennifer Aniston Smart Water Ad 1
I do like Jennifer Aniston. And today I like her a little bit more....

For some reason I think saying that just earned me bonus points in my soon to be new sister-in-law book. :)

Here is her new campaign for Smart Water. Have to admit, pretty hilarious.

I do have a lot to say, but am extremely too busy today to say it.
Sorry, this will become a lot easier once I move and get internet back in the apartment.
May 16th can't come soon enough.

Leno Pulls In A Super Star!

Okay Leno. I'm inpressed with this booking. Thursday night his audience was really given a huge treat when bona fide music legend Darlene Love turned up on his stage to sing the classic "River Deep, Mountain High". Although the record was orginially made famous by Ike and Tina Turner, Darlene sung it as part of the Broadway musical Leader of the Pack, where Love actually played herself. This version of the song is the most recognizable interpretations.

That and she just has a fantastic voice that soars to places singers only dream of. Enjoy.

Goodbye Michael Scott

'OFFICE' PARTY: Steve Carell is filming his final episode of NBC's 'The Office.'
This post is very difficult for me to write. One of my favorite characters is leaving TV after this season and well I just don't know how to cope with it yet.

I just got word that Steve Carrell is on set filming some of his final scenes for the NBC hit comedy The Office.  It has been for the last 6 or so years my favorite comedy on television. And its no big surprise why... see below.

Who Killed Davey Moore - Bob Dylan

Yesterday I read an amazing article over at NPR about this whole Charlie Sheen media blitz and really how we are going to have nobody to blame but ourselves when he crashes and burns. The article took the time to compare the song "Who Killed Davey Moore" by Bob Dylan and compared it to the situation happening with Sheen. You see Davey Moore was a boxer, who fought tough fights, yet always got a big crowd. Known as the "Tough Giant" Davey didn't stand more than 5 feet 2.

He held the world featherweight title for more than four years when during one fight he was knocked down and out. He lost that night, returned to his locker room, conducted post interviews, and later collapsed and died.

Dylan always wondered who was to blame in Davey's death. The sport. The people. The coaches. The culture. Who. Who is to blame? And why won't anyone take any responsibility.

Its scary how it translates to Sheens situation today. Scary.

Who killed Davey Moore - Why an’ what’s the reason for?
“Not I,” says the referee - “Don’t point your finger at me"
I could’ve stopped it in the eighth - An’ maybe kept him from his fate
But the crowd would’ve booed, I’m sure - At not gettin’ their money’s worth
It’s too bad he had to go - But there was a pressure on me too, you know
It wasn’t me that made him fall - No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not us,” says the angry crowd - Whose screams filled the arena loud
“It’s too bad he died that night - But we just like to see a fight
We didn’t mean for him t’ meet his death - We just meant to see some sweat
There ain’t nothing wrong in that- It wasn’t us that made him fall
No, you can’t blame us at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says his manager - Puffing on a big cigar
“It’s hard to say, it’s hard to tell- I always thought that he was well
It’s too bad for his wife an’ kids he’s dead -But if he was sick, he should’ve said
It wasn’t me that made him fall -No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says the gambling man - With his ticket stub still in his hand
“It wasn’t me that knocked him down - My hands never touched him none
I didn’t commit no ugly sin - Anyway, I put money on him to win
It wasn’t me that made him fall - No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says the boxing writer - Pounding print on his old typewriter
Sayin’, “Boxing ain’t to blame - There’s just as much danger in a football game”
Sayin’, “Fistfighting is here to stay - It’s just the old American way
It wasn’t me that made him fall - No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says the man whose fists - Laid him low in a cloud of mist
Who came here from Cuba’s door - Where boxing ain’t allowed no more
“I hit him, yes, it’s true - But that’s what I am paid to do
Don’t say ‘murder,’ don’t say ‘kill’ - It was destiny, it was God’s will”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

Touching.

This says a lot of things.... I like it.

Richmond...A Sports Lovers Nightmare

Zinger is introduced with an entire cast of ballpark characters.
Meet Zinger

Oh Richmond how I love you so. I moved here just about six years ago with a lot of hope and you have rarely disappointed me. You have given me nice places to live, work and play. The city itself is a gem, but we are lacking in one very major area.

Sports

Yup. I'm saying it. We are the shittiest sports town ever! You need a race to run? Come to Richmond. Yet if you want to see a professional sports league.... you won't find any here. The closest the town ever had I believe was the Richmond Braves. The minor team for the Atlanta Braves. But we blew that one a few years ago and now we only have the hopes to become the laughing stock of the nation with what we came up with next.

Last year the Richmond Squirrels made their inaugural appearance at the Diamond with their mascot... none other than Nutszy the flying squirrel. Nutszy. (he is to the left in the picture above)

This year they introduced his partner in crime......ZINGER

I'm embarrassed for us and I'm not even from here.

Best Music Scenes in Movies

The blogging world is on fire today. I've read so many great articles especially this latest one from the people over at moviefone.com who have compiled their list of the 50 best music scenes in movies. And well they are dead on. Kind of. I would switch their top 10 around a little bit for my preference. But its pretty perfect

How perfect.... try and argue these picks.
Full article HERE

5. Risky Business - Tom Cruise
We start off with the movie that kicked off Tom's career. In this scene Bob Seger plays beautiful background to air-guitars, couch tumbles and dancing around his living room. All while in a pink button down and underwear. Classic.

4. National Lampoons Toga Party
A little bit softer now...a little bit softer now...a little bit louder now...
This 1978 movie classic is so great for many of reasons, but this one scene seems to sum up the debauchery pretty great. There is a reason that this movie will stand the test of time.... and why college parties were never the same after the words "Toga...Toga...Toga" left John Belushi's mouth.

"Now waaaaaait a minute"

3. Waynes World - Bohemian Rapsody
There is almost no greater memory of mine then sitting in my living room watching Waynes World with my brothers. Particularly my older brother. We loved the movie. Mike Meyers was our hero and this scene was an instant classic. Anyone who is near my age, who knows this song from this movie knows it to mean one thing. Its THE rock and roll song where you take your windows down, turn the volume up and start to scream at the top of your lungs.... and lets just not even get into the head banging part.
What a classic scene!

2. Almost Famous - Tiny Dancer
Okay if this was my very own list without even thinking this would be number one. But unfortunately the number one is too hard to overlook so this clip lands at the number 2 spot. This scene sums up college for me. Every Saturday morning, my roommates and I would wake up sometime late in the morning, stumble somewhere delicious for brunch then come back to the house, put this movie on, and zone out for the next two hours. It always put everyone in a good mood. Everything in it from the acting to the music was just perfect. Yet when thinking about 'Almost Famous' one scene comes to mind. The bus sing-a-long. Yup... doesn't get much better than this right here.

"The evening is over...we hope you all enjoyed yourselves...and we will see you all again in 1975...good evening!

1. Say Anything - Peter Gabriel
I don't know what I can say about this scene that hasn't already been said. I mean forget music scenes, this is just one of the best all time scenes in movie history. And all it features is John Cusaiak, a boom box and Peter Gabriel's 'In Your Eyes'. So great! Enjoy.

Slow Jam The News

If you are not watching or taping Late Night with Jimmy Fallon I need to have a few words with you...

What are you thinking? This man has found his niche in the late night game making a show unlike any other on tv. The show is very media and music based. I mean with the Roots rocking as your House band you have a lot to live up to.

But Jimmy does it perfectly. He brings in great guests. Does hilarious segments like "The Jersey Floor" and "Slow Jamming the News with Brian Williams" which is easily my favorite 4 minutes of television each week. Last night he celebrated his 2 year show anniversary with a fantastic take.

Its comedy at its best. Enjoy.
Oooooh yeah.

Terrifying

There are not many more disturbing images than the one below.

The Mysterious McLobster

Introducing the.... McLobster. Available in New England (and yet another reason why Boston is terrible!)

I wish I was kidding.

Travis Barker

From the outside many people look at Travis Barker and his little skinny body filled with crazy tattoos and dismiss him as a punk rocker or a bad ass. Yet if people actually took the time to stop judging books by their cover what they will find is probably one of the more talented drummers to come out of my day.

He used to be part of the hit trio in the early 2000s called "Blink 182" yet since then he has made his name for himself as a pretty fantastic hip hop drummer. His remixes of songs can be found all over the internet and well once you see him play live you will forever be changed by his style. He is high energy, on his feet, big armed drummer. His symbols sit particularly high for someone of his stature.

Last night I was reminded of just this while flipping through the channels. I somehow landed on Leno and found him drumming behind the Cyprus Hill front man and well. He stole the show.

Tornado Alley

I saw this following video and I thought of my little brother Rick and his love for the weather.

These people are straight up insane. Why you would do this for the sake of science is beyond me but hey... you gotta get your kicks somehow right.

I'll stick with seeing live music.

SNL: FAIL

Well I think I can officially say that this show has jumped the shark.

This weekend it will be hosted by Miley Cyrus.

Barf.

One and Only

"I dare you to let me be, your
Your one and only
Promise I'm worth it
To hold in your arms
So come on, and give me a chance
To prove I am the one who can
Walk that mile
Until the end starts"

Its another week and yet another live gem from Adele's new album. I promise I'll try only to post about her once this week but its really hard not to think about her when her cd is loaded into my stereo at home, a copy in my car and I spend all day listening to her live stuff.

I have never heard someone sound EXACTLY like they do on the record live. She is incredible.

This song is creeping on me fast!

"I dare you to let me be.... your one and only..."
sends chills up my spine

UPDATE:
Okay I just realized that since this will be my last post about Adele for the week there should be a few more things I should tell you... first this Friday, March 4th she will be featured on MTV's Unplugged series. (dvr already set)

And finally....she was on Chelsea Lately on Monday where she sat and gave an interview... and well I also realized after this appearance that Adele and I should totally be friends. Shes hilarious! Especially talking about the "ginger biscuit" hair color, running over P.Diddy on a golf cart or how she mistook Sarah Palin for Tina Fey when she was performing on Saturday Night Live.

Okay I'm done.

Alexi Murdoch

Question.

Can a man make great music with just him and accordion and a microphone.

Yup.

Love the new song from Alexi Murdoch's new album 'Towards the Sun'. Click Here for a sneak peak of the entire album over at NPR.

American Idol Is Back.

And who has two thumbs and doesn't care at all....
this girl.

Okay well I won't say don't care at all. But I'm definitely not watching. Nope not one bit.

But I did make a prediction a few weeks ago after seeing a view of the audition videos and well I picked this kid as easily the winner. I mean its obvious.

So each week I will bring you just Casey's performance (as long as he is still staying true to himself and kicking ass). The rest of the competitors well...sorry. No love for you here.

More from the Dr.

Yesterday I posted about the new Dr. Dre/Eminem video that I am obsessed with called "I Need A Doctor". After sending it to my older brother he countered with the following video and message...

"This video is 1000 times better....and the song"

And while I don't know about that... I will say that I do love seeing Snoop and Dr. Dre together again!

Diana Ross Central Park Concert

Diana Ross's Central Park Concert back in 1981 is highly regarded as one of the best concerts.... ever.

She took to the famous stage for the first time in her career and let nothing stop her. Not wind, not pouring down rain, not the screams from her label and crew to get her off the stage. She proudly went into the NYC night and declared "It took me a lifetime to get here....I'm not going anywhere."

And she stood in the horrible weather and sang her heart out. Sang it for all those fans who were sitting in the rain with her. After watching the video below you can easily see how moving of a show it was. I mean and its Diana Ross in Central Park. Nothing short of fabulous.

I need to get to a DVD store stat!

New Sara Bareilles Video!

I know its like my blog exploded today. I got a lot to say that I've been holding in and its time for the world to know about it.

So slowly but surely you will all figure it out but until then just enjoy my happiness and enjoy some of the fantastic music that is going on in the world today.

Today is a good day.

Here is the video for "Uncharted" by Sara Bareilles. You may recognize some of the faces.

The Truth

Funny TV Ecard: The only person conceivably more insane than Charlie Sheen is anyone upset by the cancellation of Two and a Half Men.

I'm Coming Out!

diana-ross-oprah-winfrey-show-harpo.jpg
Okay I have another confession now.
Well maybe two.

I love all things Oprah. And well my mind exploded on Friday when I turned on my television and found out who was on her show. She is one of my all time favorites. Shes crazy. Shes a diva. She is a PERFORMER. She is Ms. Diana Ross.

And she is bat shit crazy.
And I adore it.

Say what you want about this lady but she deserves the praise. What she does, and what she continues to do is just amazing. And what style! Wow. The entire hour was dedicated to Diana her kids and her career. It was an amazing show from minute one. I say minute one, because they started this show the only way you could start a show staring Diana Ross. Amazing.

I was on my couch dancing by the end. Not a lie.

Then she ended the show with one of my all time favorites...
"If you need me call me... just call my name...i'll be there in a hurry"

Best part: Seeing Oprah act like a little girl singing into her microphone. ha.

Soul Power

I need to find and own this movie immediately.

If anybody knows where I can get my hands on a copy. Please let me know!

Heres a little bit of information you may not know about me.... I LOVE SOUL MUSIC. The Soul Town radio station on my sirius station is the most frequented. And well...its amazing. How can you not love this type of music? Really...how? I'm asking.

Enjoy this trailer for what is soon to be my new favorite documentary.

Friday Cheers Is Back!

This is when you know summer is near. Above take a look at a picture taken at a "Friday Cheers" event last summer. All it is is a small music event on Friday nights for the cityfolk. Its cheap music, cheap beer/food, and good company. Its quickly becoming on of my favorite things to do on Friday nights here in Richmond.

Today I'm thinking about this event because they have released the line up for this year and the closer is...wait for it...wait for it...

SHARON JONES AND THE DAP KINGS.
For $10!

What a steal!!!
Whose coming with me?

Have I mentioned to you how great this lady can sing?

Meet Wheelz

He is kind of my hero.

This 19yr old named Aaron has landed a 40 foot backflip, a double backflip, and a front-flip, all in the last six months... all without ever leaving his chair.

Check out this short documentary posted over on Devour.com to see how he got his nickname.

Incredible.

I Need A Doctor

This song premiered at the Grammys and has been stuck in my head ever since that night.

So great to see Eminem and Dr. Dre back together again. Its just like old times...like when I was in high school. Crap was it really that long ago. The fact that I've been out of high school now for almost 11 years is quite scary. But the fact that these two are still relevant and making really good music... thats impressive.

This video shows the journey to get Dr. Dre back... get it "I need a Dr." It starts out with old clips of him back in his group N.W.A. and shows how really the rap world has missed out on his genius. Thats right genius. This man is one of the best rap producers ever. I'll say it.

Plus it looks like he put on 50 lbs of straight mussel so I won't mess with him.
