Bad Randy Travis

Bad Bad Randy Travis!!

This is his mug shot from early this morning when he was arrested in Texas for not only a DUI but for threatening to kill the police officers who were arresting him.

Oh also... he was naked.

Whoops.

Olympic Picture of the Day

Mad respect today for Ms. Lolo Jones. A perfect example of how terrible the media is. They spent the months leading up to the Olympics featuring her everywhere you could see. She was probably the most famous name on the entire US Track Team. They make you feel as if she is definitely in to win gold after narrowly missing it in 2008. Remember she was the one who fell on the 2nd to last hurdle to see her Olympic dreams almost die.

We get to the Olympics and find the announcers telling us the real story. She is good, but not as good as they built her up to be. They actually never expected her to make the Olympic team this year. She did. They said it would be a miracle to qualify for the finals of the event. She did. They said that there was no way she could ever compete for a medal. She came in 4th. Now they are saying how wrong it is that she took advantage of the advertisers and money before the Olympic games. That we have forgotten about the other athletes in her field. I'm sorry but aren't you the ones that built her up only to tear her back down again?

Its a shame how quickly everyone has turned on her. Last time I checked being the 4th fastest person in your field is a pretty darn good result. I never thought it was cause for mudslinging.

So today LOLO this one is for you.

You have made the USA proud. Keep that head high.

Mumford & Sons Debut New Song

In an effort to save money this week I've decided not to go to the Mumford & Sons show tomorrow night in Portsmouth. I know. I wish I could do it but its just not going to happen. One day I'll be able to catch them live, I hope that its still in a small venue but with the debut of their second album coming those days may be over....

Here is "I Will Wait" off their new album Babel and I love it. I heard recently someone say that most of their songs are starting to sound the same. While I can't disagree too much I will say that at least their music is 90% better than some of the other crap playing on the radio today. (Did anyone else notice that boy bands are now back?) So if I have to hear these guys play versions of the same songs over and over again I'll take it any day!

Enjoy this new one.

Olympic Theme Song

If you have been watching the Olympics as much as I have you have noticed this next song. Its played during many of the montages and its got that Olympic quality to it that makes it feel like it was written specifically for this event. Its almost too perfect.

Well what if I was to tell you that it was the winner of American Idol's song. Yup. Its Phillip Phillips with his winning song "Home".

You can't deny its a great tune..

Dear Wiz

Dear Wiz Khalifa,

Whats up with your outfit on your new album cover?
Sorry to break this to you but you are not Jimi Hendrix.

Thank you. Carry on.

Olympic Picture of the Day

Yesterday I was lucky enough to watch live one of the better soccer matches I've ever seen. The United States was able to squeeze out a victory about 30 seconds before going into penalty kicks. Something that made me extremely happy because as a soccer fan nobody likes to see a game like that ended in PK's.

This was the shot right after #13 Alex Morgan headed in the winning shot.

Good luck Thursday girls!

Curtis Martin Hall of Fame Speech

I am a Jet fan. I am a Jet fan through the good times, the bad times and the downright ugly times. Through it all I've always had one number on my jersey that I wear to games. That number is #28 Curtis Martin. I love the man. I love the impact he had both on and off the field for the Jets organization and I was super proud on Saturday night to see him be elected to the Hall of Fame Class of 2012. He goes in with over 14,000 yards rushing and the number 4 rusher of all time.

Here is his speech in case you missed it. Its a good one. The man literally bares his soul.

Way to go CM!

Norah Jones on Conan

I really hope that people are not forgetting about the Conan show over on TBS. Besides Jimmy Fallon he has the best music in late night television. Last night he welcomed one of my favorites Norah Jones to his stage to perform a cut off of her new album called "Miriam". And in typical Norah fashion she killed it.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Maybe So, Maybe Not: The Trailer

Wow a Phish documentary that I could actually get behind. Besides Bittersweet Motel there aren't a ton of Phish Fan documentaries that I would say that I love. Many are stereotypical and completely miss the main reasons why I listen to the band. Now I'm not going to say this one is perfect but its better than many that are out there.

This one is called "Maybe So, Maybe Not"

Random Couple Alert

John Mayer and Katy Perry are reportedly dating.

Guess I shouldn't be too surprised by this but I am....

Olympic Pictures of the Day

Had to include two from the weekend's activities....

Fastest Man Alive!

First Bionic Olympian. Amazing sight to see....

Lollapalooza 2012 Photos

This weekend Lollapalooza was held out in Chicago and even though Saturday nights activities rained out it looked like everyone had a lot of fun on Friday!

Franz Ferdinand

Fans

Frank Ocean

Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Black Keys

Ozzy and Black Sabbath

Its worth noting that Fridays performance was a momentous occasion for Sabbath. The two hour long set marked the last of three reunion performances by the band, and the only one in the U.S. The originial drummer Bill Ward was absent (due to a unfortunate contract dispute) but all reports read that Osbourne's touring drummer, Tommy Clufetos was an impressive substitute.

Happy Monday!

Well well well what do we have here? Yet another Monday. I am not quite sure how they keep coming up so fast but they do and I will figure out a way to deal with it today. Hope everyone had an eventful weekend, it looks like the weather is finally starting to cool off for a little here in Richmond which makes me extremely happy. Other than that nothing too crazy or exciting.

Fingers crossed for this week flying by without anything too crazy.

Now back to the Olympics.

Best. Synchronized Swimming Outfits. Ever.

Way to go Russia!
(Yes that it Michael Jackson...ha)

Olympic Picture of the Day

Congrats to Gabby Douglas for bringing home the Gold in the gymnastics all around competition yesterday.

This is also an amazing picture.

Epic Metal Freakout

"I am going freaking faint!"

That is the reaction of the man in the video below as he waits in line to meet the members of Black Sabbath. One of the more hilarious fan freak outs I have ever seen. Ha.

Preview of the 'Move Me Brightly' Tribute Tonight

Tonight beginning at 6:30 PM at tristudios.com, Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir will pay homage to his late bandmate Jerry Garcia, who would have turned 70 this week. He is hosting a free webcast of a one-time-only assemblage of musicians to honor Jerry. It is titled "Move Me Brightly" and will feature Phish's Mike Gordon, Vampire Weekend's Chris Tomson, Grateful Dead vocalist Jean Godchaux, Furthur's Joe Russo and Jeff Chimenti, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals Neal Casal as well as many more. Actor Luke Wilson will be the host and a preview of it is above.

Should be a great evening of music in honor of a fantastic musician.

Queen - I Want To Break Free

There couldn't be a more appropriate song for my life today.

Jason Mraz on Conan

Stopped watching the Olympics long enough last night to catch Jason on Conan. Great performance from the local Richmond kid...

Andrew Bird - Oh No

Been an extremely long and exhausting day here at work today yet its not even 2pm yet. That is not good at all.

The only thing that is getting me through the afternoon is my ipod and headphones.

On heavy rotation is Andrew Bird.

Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks

I am absolutely loving this song "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men. Its lyrics are wonderful, the beat is catchy and its one of those songs that the more and more you hear it the more you fall in love with it. I believe that the song is about a widow who at some point watched the love of her life pass away. She is now towards the end of her life and is imagining her late husbands ghost coming in to tell her everything will be okay and that they will meet again soon. Again just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own.

Either way enjoy the song.

"...You're gone, gone, gone away
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart
There's nothing we can do
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon
Now wait, wait, wait for me
Please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep..."

Up: Love Story

I know my blog as been all over the place lately, and now I'm talking about movies! Oh ADD how I love/hate you so...

Anyways I'm posting this because I never found the whole thing online until today. Its the opening from the movie UP. If you haven't seen the movie really this is the only part you need to see. Its actually the first few minutes of the actual film. Nothing like a good cry before the movie actually begins.

Snoop Lion: Reincarnated

Okay you can't tell me that you didn't see this one coming. Yesterday the man formally known as Snoop Dogg announced that he is dropping the Dogg adding a Lion and releasing a Reggae record.

Check out the documentary below that follows him as his journeys to Jamaica to record an album with Diplo. While he is there, Snoop finds himself embraced by the Jamaican people, impacted by Rastafarian culture and became reincarnated as Snoop Lion.

Again... like we didn't see this coming?

Happy 70th Jerry Garcia

Happy Birthday to one of my favorite guitarists to ever pick up the instrument. When Jerry played the guitar it was just pure magic. I've written enough about him on here that there is no need to go into his background or what he did to change the music industry as a whole. In honor of his birthday today I will celebrate him with his own words....

We miss you Jerry!!

“Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil.”

“once in awhile you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look it right”

“Nothing left to do but smile.”

“Sometimes the lights all shining on me, other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me what a long strange trip it's been.”

“If the thunder don't get ya then the lightning will.”

“Run faster, jump higher, reach farther, and you'll always win!
live life expecting the worst, hoping for the best, and living for the future!
Somebody has to do something, and it's just incredibly pathetic that it has to be us.”

"There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night and if you go, no one may follow, that pay is for your steps alone"

"you do not merely want to be considered just the best of the best. You want to be considered the only ones who do what you do"

All Is Forgiven NBC

So for the last two days I was very critical of NBC's coverage of the Olympics. Then last night happened. I went into the night not happy about having some of the swimming and gymnastics spoiled for me while I was at work but when the nights coverage was over I was left with a huge smile on my face and the promise to never make fun of NBC ever again.

Why you ask? Easy. For those of you who made it to the end of coverage last night they saw Michael Phelps break the record to become the most decorated Olympian ever. Right after the race during the next commercial NBC did a huge tribute to the man showing all of the races that got him to this moment. Well who would have thought but the music playing in the background of this video was none other than Phish's Tweezer Reprise. I really wish there was a video of my face when I realized that they were playing Phish during their prime time coverage.

And what a song to choose too! Can't think of one in their arsenal with more energy.

So bravo NBC. You officially get a pass for the rest of the Olympics from me.

Photo of the Games (So Far)

Absolutely loving this picture of a North Korea weightlifter during his competition today...

Found It!

I don't know how but I've found the worst video of all time. Its not in English and all I know is its a crazy dance track but the video is a must see.

Here is the description of this guys new album:

"From 2 years of break, PSY, is finally coming back with his 6th album 'PSY6' The album's weighty title song 'Gangnam Style' is composed solely by PSY himself from lyrics to choreography. The song is characterized by its strongly addictive beats and lyrics, and is thus certain to penetrate the foundations of modern philosophy."

McCartney Does It For Free!

This was expected but still pretty cool. Despite the big stage of the 2012 London Opening Ceremony, the musicians involved including former Beatle legend Paul McCartney earned a mere 1 pound or $1.57 in US, for their services that evening. The Olympic organizers say the small sum was paid to the stars in order to make their contracts binding.

Pretty Neat.

And while we are talking about the Olympics let me tell NBC just once that I hate them! I stayed away from as much coverage as I could yesterday (especially the swimming results). Only to have you show a commercial for the Today Show with Missy Franklin winning the Gold, literally in the commercial break before she competed. I don't know how many other people caught that but it did not make me too happy last night.

How To Really Be Happy....

"There is no way to happiness.

Happiness is the way.
So treasure every moment that you have.
And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special

And remember that time waits for no one.
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school,
Until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds
Until you have kids, until your kids leave the house,
Until you start work, until you retire,
Until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night
Until Saturday morning, until you get a new car or home
Until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer
Until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth,

Until your song comes on, until you've had a drink
Until you've sobered up, until you die, until you are born again
To decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy
Happiness is a journey, not a destination

Work like you don't need the money
Love like you've never been hurt
And dance like no one's watching...."
