Oh September....You're Going To Be Crazy...

Tomorrow marks the start of the most busy month of my entire life. Exaggeration? Maybe... but probably not.

This is what the next five weekends look like:
-This weekend Labor Day - Friends from NJ Visit
-Next weekend - Drive to NJ for Jets home opener
-Weekend of 17th - Dianes BacheloretteParty
-Weekend of 24th - Brothers wedding in Nantucket
-Weekend after - Savor Event for work.

So yeah... if you see me at all this month count yourself lucky. I'm going to try and make it through with still a dollar in my pocket. (chances of that happening... slim to none... just saying)

Blog On Hold

Yeah so for the past week I've been dealing with Earthquakes, Hurricanes, Misplaced Brothers, and other ridiculous things.

So this site is on hold until this shit calms down!

:) See you soon...

Bad Meets Evil

Here is a new one from Eminem feat Bruno Mars.

I really like it except for the catch line "sky full of lighters"... you could have done better there. But your rapping is tight. Yo. ha.

Pat Summitt (My Hero)

There is not enough space in this blog for me to list all the reasons why I have admired Pat Summit for as long as I can remember. You see for me, a basketball player, there was not many women figures to look up to in the early 90s. Fortunately there was Pat Summit. This lady has lead the Lady Vol Tennessee program since 1974 winning 8 national championships. She ranks #8 on the All Time Best Coach's List (male or female) and well talk about class. This lady is so classy she is in a league of her own. She made girls like me think it was possible to play the game at a high level, that we can be athletic, and that there really are no differences when it comes to sports.

Which is what made seeing the news yesterday so difficult.

She has been diagnosed with dementia, at the age of 59. (Full article HERE)

I can not even begin to imagine the courage it took for her to record the video below. I am happy to hear that she will continue to coach, but again can't imagine how this journey must be for her.

I'll be thinking of you Pat.

Eleanor Roosevelt - One Smart Lady

"Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints on your heart. To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart. Anger is only one letter short of danger. If someone betrays you once, it is his fault; if someone betrays you twice, its your fault. Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. He who loses money, loses much; he who loses a friend, loses much more; he who loses faith, loses all. Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art. Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself... There is no beginning or end. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present." - Eleanor Roosevelt

God Made Man

"I have my own particular sorrows loves, delights; and you have yours. But sorrow, gladness, yearning, hope, love, belong to all of us, in all times and in all places. Music is the only means whereby we these emotions in their universality."
-H.A. Overstreet

This song is a good background for my day today. Big shout out to Mrs. Lee for bringing these people to my attention.

Tumblr Day!

Well after the earthquake that hit about 20 miles from my city yesterday, today is going to be hopefully just a normal day.

So I decided it will be a tumblr day, yup that's right. I have talked about these blogs before, love searching through them and finding great pictures and quotes (like the one above). Its fun, and well today I bring that fun to you.

Be prepared.

Lisa Goes Gaga

Lady Gaga Does The Simpsons In Lisa Goes Gaga
I'm totally jealous.

Above you see Lady Gaga recording her guest spot on the Simpsons! The episode is named "Lisa Goes Gaga".... ha. I want to do that!

RIP Nick Ashford

This post is just sad.

Last night the world lost one of the greatest songwriters of all time. The legendary Nick Ashford died after complications from caner.

Him and his partner formed the writing duo of Ashford & Simpson and were belting out hits for decades. The world will truly miss this gentle man.

Here are some of my favorites.

"Solid as a Rock"

"Give Me Something Real"

"If there's no one besides you when your soul embarks... then I'll follow you into the dark"

Seriously this song is one of the best written, most heartbreaking songs I've ever had the pleasure of hearing with my own ears. It sits very close to the top of one of my all time favorite songs. Death Cab for Cutie... you kill me every time.

Here is the lovely Christina Perri doing the song justice with her and her piano. Lovely.

Stand By Me: John Lennon

One of my favorite covers of all time. John Lennon singing "Stand By Me"....

...darling darling stand by me...

Lynn Hirschberg's Screen Tests

If you are not familiar with these yet, go get yourself to youtube and search. If you are a fan of the art of being an actor (like I am) you will love these screen tests. Love them. Trust me.

Here is a compilation of some of the actors talking about "What Movie Made You Cry?" and well I have to agree with Natalie Portman. She said the movie and scene perfectly.

Adele - That's It, I Quit, I'm Moving On... (Sam Cooke Cover)

Here is a super old school cover from Adele. Girl is so amazing I can't even put it into words. If I could just sit on a chair and belt like this... well that's exactly what I would do. Its just so effortless.

Jimmy Hendrix in Guitar Picks? Yes Please.

Gimme Shelter: Playing for Change

Love these people and their covers. Especially since the proceeds go to a good cause. If you have some time check out some of their other videos. Street performing at its best.

When All Else Fails.

Cover Song Friday!

If you were to see me today this is pretty much what I look like. After a really long week at work, I have finally made it to Friday! Whooo!

Nothing huge planned for this weekend. Actually its a weekend of catch up for me. Going to see some movies that I've been waiting for for a while (The Help, Glee 3d). Yes I'm that girl.

Hope everyone has a good weekend planned. Go do something for yourself. Isn't that what weekends are all about anyways?

Also please do not call me before noon tomorrow. Fair warning.

Also today I'm going to post some more good covers. Why? Why not.

The Holy Grail

Welcome to music's holy grail. Thats right. The infamous Rolling Stone Magazine "Hallway of Covers". One day my two eyes will see this collection one day...

But for now I'll take the tour with Jeff Bridges anyday!
(sorry that its off center I can't seem to correct that)

Love.

Snow Patrol - Crack the Shudders

Remember Snow Patrol, they hit it big with a hit a few years back called "Chasing Cars". Well they are back and I'm in love with this next song.

That and the singer ain't to hard to look at either... good job boys!

Song of the Day: Heart on Fire

Here it goes again, artist that I have no idea who they are has put a song out that I can not get out of my head. So challenge accepted Scars on 45. I will find out who you are and what this song is all about.

Enjoy it while I figure it out.

Odd Pairing

50 Cent, Goldie Hawn
What would be your reaction if you went out to lunch and in the next table over were 50 cent and Goldie Hawn. pretty odd right?

Scary Moment in History

Me

Don't know why this creeps me out so much but it does.

My Blog. My Posts.

Anyone who thinks supporting this lady will bring any good to our country needs to have their heads examined.

Have a good day.

LCD Soundsystem In Legos

This is a fan remake of the video 'All My Friends' from LCD Soundsystem... all in Legos. Awesome.

Tragedy in Indiana

A collapsed stage at the Indiana State Fair August 13, 2011
Tragedy struck the Indiana State Fair over the weekend when the stage collapsed at the Sugarland Concert killing 5 people and injuring over four dozen. I've seen the video of the actual collapse and well as a concert goer myself its too terrifying to watch again so I will not repost. All I will say is you see the weather turn on a dime and the roof of the stage catch on to the wind and fold like a deck of cards.

I just can not imagine going to a concert and having it end like this.... unimaginable. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved. Sad sad sad.

Things I'm Not Afraid to Admit!

Hello. My name is Katie DeMaio and I'm not afraid to admit these silly things at the age of 28.
-I've read all of the Harry Potter and Twilight books
-I'm obsessed with Teen Mom/16 & Pregnant
-I have a huge amount of respect for Taylor Swift

Wow I feel better already!

Speaking of Ms. Swift. I kind of want to be her in her latest music video. I mean its pretty badass. From the looks of it she puts on a pretty entertaining show and well she just seems pretty down to earth for a chick who literally runs the 'teenage world'.

Check it out.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

Love these movies... can't wait to see this one! ha.

Quote of the Day

"Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher." - Oprah

New Obsession: Queen

When I was home last weekend I spent a lot of time on the couch with my Dad watching the Biography channel. He had saved a few specials worth watching and well one of them completely blew me away and has sent me in a tizzy ever since.

It was called Queen: Days of our Lives and if you ever see it coming across your television I HIGHLY recommend you take the two hours and watch. It basically tracked the band from its early days in England to its triumphant run though the United States and then back to England and finally to Freddie Mercury's death. Easily one of the best band biographies I have ever watched. And well I don't know about you but I had no idea about the caliber of this band. Did I know they were great? Yes. Did I love their songs already? Yup. But did I understand that everything all those harmonies came out of four voices? No. Did I understand how far they were pushing the limits of the music industry when they were out? Nope.

This band was the real deal, and well Freddie. Well Freddie was one of a kind. My Dad and I had the discussion of the 'greatest front men of all time' and I was quick to say that Jagger had the crown but then followed with "I do believe if Freddie had more time he would easily take the crown". And that's exactly how I feel. I really hope that the day that I die that he is there to welcome me with a vocal jam. His voice is unlike anything I have ever heard. His presence is that of a true legend. Again I just can't imagine if he wasn't taken so early from this planet.

Do yourself a favor and youtube some of the Wembley Stadium performances. Take some time today to realize how great this band was. And if you do have the Biography Channel do a search tonight and find this special. You will not be sorry!

Here are two of my favorite videos:

The first is called "The 20 Minutes that Changed Music" and it was from their Live Aid performance. No words to describe the fire they set on that stage that day...

...and finally here is a teaser clip from the biography... the making of "Somebody to Love"

Jets vs Redskins - Dec 4th

If you have ever met me you know there are two sports teams that I really care about. The Yankees and the Jets. Its not a choice, its the lifestyle that I was brought up on.

I've gotten more and more into the Jets since moving out of the range seeing all the games (funny how that happens) so I try to get to as many games as my schedule down here in Richmond allows.

Which is why I'm super excited when I found out the Jets are coming down to DC to play the Redskins on December 4th. Can't wait!!

I have a feeling it will look a lot like the scene above...

If anyone would like to join me let me know!

Rock Star Status

"Fame wasn't terrible for me. I never look at it as taking away my freedom. I think that fame, for some people, really is horrible. But I have to say. I think that being a rock and roll star is great; I fly on a private plane I stay in Presidential Suites. I drive in limosines... I love my life. I love being famous. I love being able to walk int a restaurant and say "I'm Stevie Nicks. Can I get a table? You know.... why not?"

Why not is right Stevie. You go girl.

My Favorite Hollywood "It" Girl

I know I know this is a music blog. But it really should be more of an entertainment blog for the fact that I do love all things in the world of entertainment. And well right now I have a major girl crush on Emma Stone. Yup thats right. I totally want to be friends with her.

Why you ask? Well why wouldn't you. She seems down to earth, funny and really does not take herself too seriously. She is in the new movie out today called "The Help" and at the end of the year she will be in the new Spiderman movie. Soon enough everyone will know her and well... one day... one day. We will go out for beers.

Until then I will tape every late night show she is on just for kicks.

Here is her interview last year on Chelsea Lately... followed by a blooper reel to the movie she was in "Easy A" (which if you haven't seen.... stop right now and fix your Netflix)

Fly Eagle Fly!

Sometimes things just catch my attention as just cool.

This is one of those things. Check out an Eagle flying in Slow-Mo. Insane.

2 Cellos

I know I have written about this duo before; they are amazing!!!

Check out the cover of Nirvana's Classic "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on two cellos.

Moves Like Jagger

What happens when you take two of musics biggest stars. Throw in some fun dance moves and a beat. And well have one of them be shirtless? Thats right. A ridiculous music video with a really catchy song.

Congrats Adam Levine and Christina Aguleria. You had my feet tapping to this song the entire time watching this video. (even though at some points it makes me dizzy) I still like the throwback to Mick Jagger.

Big Week In Music

Jerry garcia grateful dead rip
I know I promised to get back to this blog last night, but i've been feeling off my game the last few days and I fell asleep at 8pm. Sorry.

To make up for it here is a good list of what happened in rock music history on this week.
-John Lennon apologized for 'blasphemy'
-Janis Joplin performed live for the last time
-Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran almost drowned
-Fans rioted after a disastrous Guns N Roses/Metallica show
and most historic (in my mind)
-The great Jerry Garcia died

What a week....

In 1995 Grateful dead lead guitarist Jerry Garcia was thought to be on the mend when he met his untimely death. The figurehead to many like minded people like myself had just checked himself into a California rehab center to kick his persistent drug addictions, but he succumbed there to a heart attack. He was only 53.

Say what you would like about Jerry but I know my life right now would be a whole lot different if not for this man. First off my favorite band would not exist. And secondly, the culture that I love with my whole heart would not exist either.  You can dismiss the man for his drug use, you can dismiss his band for the way they lead their lives, but the music is just undeniable.

We miss you Jerry.

Here is an amazing moment from back in 1994.

Dear America...

Dear America, this is not a political blog. Nor do I try and say that I know what I'm talking about. But if we let this Tea Party run our country any more the last thing we will have to worry about is a downgrade in our credit rating.

This chick will be at the head. And then I'm officially moving out of this country.

Your move people. Your move.

New Hot Jam

Not a lot of time today. I promise to make up for it this evening. But for now here is a new one from Rye Rye feat (one of my favs) Robyn with "Never Will Be Mine". They performed it live on Leno last night.

Love it.

Have a great day everyone. I'm super excited to be back in Richmond for the next month!

Skinny Love

You know what I am looking forward to.... the fall.

I love the fall. Its perfect in my mind. For too many reasons than to name here.

Its almost like this song by Bon Iver.

Blink 182 Back... And No Its Not 1998

Blink 182 is back making new music. Yeah I know I don't really care too much either but I did stumble across their new video and well I have to give it to them the concept is pretty cool. Again concept. I do not condone listening to their music for more than the next four minutes.

Here is what they say about what they created...
"To launch our first single in eight years, AT&T helped us search YouTube for every instance of fans using our music without our permission. And then we rewarded them for it. This film is made out of clips from all those videos. Thanks for being a fan"

I like bands that care about their fans. Good job boys.

Gym Class Heroes: Stereo Hearts

I can't get this song out of my head!!!

I'm not a huge pop music fan but every now and again a song comes along that gets stuck in my head and I'm never the same. For example. This song, I heard it on the radio driving home from work last week. Its still in my head.

Damn you!

Enjoy.

Young the Giant

My old friend Virginia came into town last week and she brought with her, her love of Indie Music. I always hear of the best bands from her, I swear. She always has her pulse on the next big act to hear and well she is dead right about these next guys. Meet 'Young the Giant'. I've fallen in love with them in less than 5 days.

Their entire cd is amazing and well worth the download immediately.

Especially because of this song "I Got".

On the Road...Again...and Again...and Again

Here I go driving back up to NJ again this weekend. As much as I love my family and I love seeing them this drive is pretty terrible. Well terrible is letting it down easy. Its downright awful. I hate every single minute of the six hours.

But here I'm off to do it again.

One day all my family will come down here so I don't always have to drive up....

hahahahahaha. yeah i know gave me a pretty good laugh myself too.

Christina Perri

You know something is really good when it even makes my Dad stop and listen. Christina Perri (a girl that a long time ago I actually met at a bar here in Richmond) has made it big, finally.

Out of many of the artists that have come out over the years this girls style is effortless.

It just looks too easy. Also if you don't have her album, contact me immediately.

Shark Week 2011

Its shark week on the Discovery Channel. You know what that means?!? Yup, ridiculous shark programs all week long! When asking yourself why they do an all shark special week once a year (a tradition that has been going strong since 1986) I've actually read a journalist say "Sharks are the Betty Whites of the water.... people never get tired of seeing them".

I'm sold.

And Meet Andy Sandberg, the appointed Chief Shark Officer for 2011.

Foo Fighters Garage Tour

If you have a spare 40 minutes today I highly suggest you watch this video and you will soon figure out why the Foo Fighters have been popular for as long as they have been. Bravo guys.

Bon Iver

Bon Iver live with The Rosebuds at The National, Richmond, 30 July 2011
Saw Bon Iver down in Richmond on Saturday night. I will post my pictures later but for now just know that it was an absolutely stellar performance and I highly recommend everyone to see them live STAT!

This was my favorite that they played....

Poster Disappointment

I am totally bummed this morning. This poster above that I had ordered almost a month ago and I just got an email this morning that although I had ordered and paid for it that it was out of stock?

Boo.

Mondays suck.
