Tomorrow Starts December!

Tomorrow marks the start of one of my most favorite months! December is here!! I have a fun filled packed month coming up and well, I'm looking forward to it all! I have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season, and for that I will be walking around all month long with a smile on my face. Because thats what the holiday season is all about, to take some time look around you and be thankful for the space that you have. 

So this December will be filled with lots of good things. I have a lot of fun going on at work, lots of fun going on with friends and family and well lots of fun going on at the end of the month at MSG. Thats right... Phish time is almost here. Those few times a year where I'm able to cut loose, dance my face off, and well just be nothing short of the happiest girl on the planet. Again how lucky am I to have such great things to look forward to. 

I hope that everyone is as excited as I am about the next month ahead. And well if your not, give me a ring, I have some happiness to share... because well its no fun if the people around you aren't as happy as you!

Okay well I'm going to spend my last 20 minutes here at work.... doing what? Thats right...dancing!

Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide

Hello! Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday afternoon. I'm so busy at work its almost funny. I have sat down exactly twice and with no end in sight I might as well post this while I still can.

I have never been the biggest Smashing Pumpkins fan. I mean yes, they were popular when I was in high school but I never really got into them. I had friends who were huge fans but never really "got it" myself. Last night I was informed that they covered "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. At first I almost laughed... the thought of Billy singing these words just didn't make too much sense to me. I just listened to a version on youtube and....

Well I am here to admit how really wrong I was. This cover is amazing and well, it deserves a shout out on here. 

Boyce Avenue Who Are You?

Dear Boyce Avenue.... Who are you? I was just listening to my trusty acoustic station on Pandora when your cover of 'Beautiful Girls/Stand by Me' just impressed me. You seem to do a pretty simple, lovely cover of both songs. I figured I'd go check you out on youtube and much to my surprise, your cover has over 6 million hits! 

So again I must ask... who are you?

Soul Meets Body

With it being a rainy day here in Richmond I am finding my ipod quickly headed towards my Death Cab for Cutie section. Its like it can't help itself. So as long as I am headed in this dreary direction you will too!

Rolling Stone Names Jimmy Number One!

Absolutely no suprise here when I read today that Rolling Stone Magazine has just named Jimi Hendrix number one on their list of "100 Greatest Guitarists". Man was absolutely unbelievable. There is nothing that I can say about him that hasn't already been said so I will include the excerpt written about him in Rolling Stone by Tom Morello.... because well its perfect. 

"Jimi Hendrix exploded our idea of what rock music could be: He manipulated the guitar, the whammy bar, the studio and the stage. On songs like "Machine Gun" or "Voodoo Child" his instrument is like a divining rod of the turbulent Sixties -- you can hear the riots in the streets and napalm bombs dropping in his "Star-Spangled Banner". 

His playing was effortless. There's not one minute of his recorded career that feels like he's working hard at it - it feels like it's all flowing through him. The most beautiful song of the Jimi Hendrix canon is "Little Wing". It's just this gorgeous song that, as a guitar player, you can study your whole life and no get down, never get inside it the way that he does. He seamlessly weaves chords and single-note runs together and uses chord voicings that don't appear in any music book. His riffs were pre-metal funk bulldozer, and his lead lines were an electric LSD trip down to the crossroads, where he pimp-slapped the devil. 

There are arguments about who was the first guitar player to use feedback. It doesn't really matter, because Hendrix used it better than anyone; he took what it was to become Seventies funk and put it through a Marshall stack, in a way that nobody's done since. 

It's impossible to think of what Jimi would be doing now; he seemed like a pretty mercurial character. Would he be an elder statesman of rock? Would he be Sir Jimi Hendrix? Or would he be doing some residency off the Vegas Strip? The good news is his legacy is assured as the greatest guitar player of all time."

Adele For The Win

I knew there were numerous reasons I love this girl. Here is one more an excerpt from her recent article in Cosmo Magazine when asked about her love life and saying those three simple words:

"Its just so hard for me to share my feelings. I've actually never told a guy that I loved him. I've felt them; I just can't say them. My friend recently convinced me how important it is for guys to know that. I wound up writing letters to all the men I've been with, telling them that I did feel that for them. Take Me Home Tonight

On Saturday night I watched a pretty hilarious movie. The name "Take Me Home Tonight", I remember when it came out in the theater that I wanted to see it but somehow I missed it. Luckily we were able to catch it 'ondemand' and well it didn't disappoint.

Its all about the late 80s and well what do we all know about the 80s? The music!! Thats right... the soundtrack of this film was nothing short of spectacular. Everyone from Duran Duran, The Buggles, Men Without Hats, Wang Chung and we can't forget Atomic Tom! Seriously band names are not this cool anymore... 

Then this morning when I was looking at the track listing I stumbled upon the hilarious music video the cast made for the movie to the tune "Don't You Want Me Baby". Its easily one of the funnier videos I've seen in a while, especially since about half way through they start reenacting some of the great movie scenes from the 80s. Some of them off the top of my head that I remember are: Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, Terminator, Caddyshack, Twins, Friday 13th, Cocktail, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Dirty Dancing and Ferris Buehler's Day Off (the list should include about 30 more movies)

Last week my friends and I went to go see the new Twilight movie (its totally okay to judge.. I would too!) and well as expected the movie was.... TERRIBLE. But I will give it this, the soundtrack was pretty enjoyable. Especially this following song by Bruno Mars. Its called "It Will Rain" and well its pretty legit. 

As legit as a pop song written for Twilight could be... but seriously, not bad Bruno not bad at all.

A Win is a Win!

A win is a win and nothing is more true about my Jets this year. We are not making it easy or pretty but we did eeek out a win yesterday.... Big thanks to my man Plaxico for making this catch and saving our season. 

Next stop, Washington Redskins this weekend and yes I will be there and yes we better put another win in!

I'm Back!

Sorry for the lack of posts last week, very busy with the Thanksgiving holiday. Yet good things is that I have a ton to talk about and will be back here today and will spit it all out. 

I will start here with the song that I think I may have listened to 300 times this past week. No surprise that Florence + the Machine's new album has been in heavy rotation as of late, but I almost missed the last cut on the album. Then I heard it and my life changed.

Kelly Clarkson....Welcome Back!

You can't not like Kelly Clarkson. I'm sorry but you can't. I've had numerous conversations with people with very wide musical tastes, but one thing everyone can agree on is that this girl can sing! She basically was thrown out into the music world through that little American Idol show and never ever looked back. She has some of the best songs of my generation under her belt and from the looks of it, she is not close to stopping. Mad respect in my book. 

Well the girl is back with a new song and well... dare I say it? Catchiest one yet? I have a feeling this will be the first hit of 2012. Welcome back Kelly!!

Christmas List Extended

My small Christmas list filled with a few books, headphones and other small odds and ends has just been extended. Adele is about to release a DVD of her concert at Albert Hall and well I must have it. Must Must MUST!

Real Life Mario Karts

This could possibly be the coolest video that I have seen in a long time. There was a time in college when I went on a pretty long undefeated run on Mario Kart. I as the princess (obviously) would destroy anyone who came in my path. I took no prisoners. 

Which is why I find this next video so awesome. In anticipation of the new release of  Mario Kart 7 on December 4th Nintendo tried to recreate some of the original magic and tapped the boys over at West Coast Customs to recreate some of the original cars.

Billy Joel - Lullaby

During this part of the documentary I definitely cried. I can't not when listening to this song.... its so beautiful. Yes Billy is known for his up beat songs like Uptown Girl, Piano Man and Captain Jack but there is something so lovely when he slows it down and just sings. So sweet....

The Last Play at Shea

On Saturday afternoon I watched a documentary that feels like it was almost perfectly crafted for me. It was amazing! It was called "The Last Play at Shea" and it was about the last concert that Billy Joel put on at Shea Stadium and the history that both he, baseball and music has shared with that magical venue. It talked all about the Beatles, about the early days of baseball at Shea, the good times the bad, and was all set to the background of Billy's last performance there. It was magical.

Its going to be playing on Showtime a lot. And if you are a fan of music (especially of Billy's) and love sports its one for you. Check out the trailer below. I get chills even watching that...

Emelie Sande

I absolutely love this song. It came across the radio today while I was out running errands and I've just spent the last hour tracking it down. I've never heard of Emelie before but you can bet I will be trying to find out more about her today. For now listen to her song called "Daddy" which obviously stands for a drug or addict of some sort...

Florence + The Machine - Saturday Night Live

Yesterday before I went into work for a few hours I was able to catch up on Saturday Night Live. Glad I did, because one of my favorites Florence and the Machine were the musical guests and well she killed it. I downloaded her new album a few weeks ago and it is quite impressive. This girl has got some pipes, and the best part.... its all pretty natural and effortless. Just the way I like it.

15 Million Views in One Week

Last Friday November 11th Katy Perry premiered her new video for "The One That Got Away".

Today (one week later...) it has over 15 million views. 

Seriously?!?

I mean is the song catchy? Of course. But 15 million views in one week??? The most any Phish video has on youtube is roughly 500,000. Something is wrong with the world.

Short Day Today

Welcome to yet another Friday! Yay we made it! 

Today is going to be a short but sweet day for me. I've worked entirely way too many hours this week (not to mention a return here Sunday afternoon) and today they are testing all 200+ fire alarms in the building. So as you can imagine I will be getting out of here sooner than later.

Rumor Has It/Someone Like You

Last night I was able to watch Glee before passing out cold on my couch. The episode ended with one of the best mash-ups I have ever heard. And yes I may be biased due to my love of all things Adele.

Live or Let Die - Guns N' Roses

Last night while watching a recent interview with Guns N Roses front man Axl Rose they showed a video of the band doing "Live or Let Die" from a recent concert and it instantly brought me back to 1991. Yes I was 9. My older brother was a huge Guns N Roses fan and I remember stealing his album and listening to their songs over and over again. I was memorized. There just wasn't another band like them out at the time. 

(This also reminds me of one of my families favorite arguments. We were driving to my Aunt's house and my older brother tried to convince my Dad that Slash was a better guitarist than Jimmy Page. I remember my Dad almost drove off the side of the road in laughter.... still hands down one of my favorite moments ever...)

Anyways, I think their cover of Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney is one of the better covers ever. It just suits Guns N Roses so well. 

Lets take a look back into their prime and remember how good this band was/is.
