Tomorrow Starts December!

Tomorrow marks the start of one of my most favorite months! December is here!! I have a fun filled packed month coming up and well, I'm looking forward to it all! I have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season, and for that I will be walking around all month long with a smile on my face. Because thats what the holiday season is all about, to take some time look around you and be thankful for the space that you have.

So this December will be filled with lots of good things. I have a lot of fun going on at work, lots of fun going on with friends and family and well lots of fun going on at the end of the month at MSG. Thats right... Phish time is almost here. Those few times a year where I'm able to cut loose, dance my face off, and well just be nothing short of the happiest girl on the planet. Again how lucky am I to have such great things to look forward to.

I hope that everyone is as excited as I am about the next month ahead. And well if your not, give me a ring, I have some happiness to share... because well its no fun if the people around you aren't as happy as you!

Okay well I'm going to spend my last 20 minutes here at work.... doing what? Thats right...dancing!

Have a fantastic evening.

Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide

Hello! Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday afternoon. I'm so busy at work its almost funny. I have sat down exactly twice and with no end in sight I might as well post this while I still can.

I have never been the biggest Smashing Pumpkins fan. I mean yes, they were popular when I was in high school but I never really got into them. I had friends who were huge fans but never really "got it" myself. Last night I was informed that they covered "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. At first I almost laughed... the thought of Billy singing these words just didn't make too much sense to me. I just listened to a version on youtube and....

Well I am here to admit how really wrong I was. This cover is amazing and well, it deserves a shout out on here.

Boyce Avenue Who Are You?

Dear Boyce Avenue.... Who are you? I was just listening to my trusty acoustic station on Pandora when your cover of 'Beautiful Girls/Stand by Me' just impressed me. You seem to do a pretty simple, lovely cover of both songs. I figured I'd go check you out on youtube and much to my surprise, your cover has over 6 million hits!

So again I must ask... who are you?

Soul Meets Body

With it being a rainy day here in Richmond I am finding my ipod quickly headed towards my Death Cab for Cutie section. Its like it can't help itself. So as long as I am headed in this dreary direction you will too!

"Cause in my head there's a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
Where they're far more suited than here"

So Busy!

So busy today! Don't know if I'll have a lot of time to get on here, but I will try.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

(I also post this picture above because today I got the first of what is sure to be at least 8 popcorn tins here at work....)

Rolling Stone Names Jimmy Number One!

Absolutely no suprise here when I read today that Rolling Stone Magazine has just named Jimi Hendrix number one on their list of "100 Greatest Guitarists". Man was absolutely unbelievable. There is nothing that I can say about him that hasn't already been said so I will include the excerpt written about him in Rolling Stone by Tom Morello.... because well its perfect.

"Jimi Hendrix exploded our idea of what rock music could be: He manipulated the guitar, the whammy bar, the studio and the stage. On songs like "Machine Gun" or "Voodoo Child" his instrument is like a divining rod of the turbulent Sixties -- you can hear the riots in the streets and napalm bombs dropping in his "Star-Spangled Banner".

His playing was effortless. There's not one minute of his recorded career that feels like he's working hard at it - it feels like it's all flowing through him. The most beautiful song of the Jimi Hendrix canon is "Little Wing". It's just this gorgeous song that, as a guitar player, you can study your whole life and no get down, never get inside it the way that he does. He seamlessly weaves chords and single-note runs together and uses chord voicings that don't appear in any music book. His riffs were pre-metal funk bulldozer, and his lead lines were an electric LSD trip down to the crossroads, where he pimp-slapped the devil.

There are arguments about who was the first guitar player to use feedback. It doesn't really matter, because Hendrix used it better than anyone; he took what it was to become Seventies funk and put it through a Marshall stack, in a way that nobody's done since.

It's impossible to think of what Jimi would be doing now; he seemed like a pretty mercurial character. Would he be an elder statesman of rock? Would he be Sir Jimi Hendrix? Or would he be doing some residency off the Vegas Strip? The good news is his legacy is assured as the greatest guitar player of all time."

Well said Tom. Well said.

Adele For The Win

I knew there were numerous reasons I love this girl. Here is one more an excerpt from her recent article in Cosmo Magazine when asked about her love life and saying those three simple words:

"Its just so hard for me to share my feelings. I've actually never told a guy that I loved him. I've felt them; I just can't say them. My friend recently convinced me how important it is for guys to know that. I wound up writing letters to all the men I've been with, telling them that I did feel that for them. Well, except for the one guy who I wrote and was like, "You're a f--ing c--t"

-Adele... winning yet again!

Take Me Home Tonight

On Saturday night I watched a pretty hilarious movie. The name "Take Me Home Tonight", I remember when it came out in the theater that I wanted to see it but somehow I missed it. Luckily we were able to catch it 'ondemand' and well it didn't disappoint.

Its all about the late 80s and well what do we all know about the 80s? The music!! Thats right... the soundtrack of this film was nothing short of spectacular. Everyone from Duran Duran, The Buggles, Men Without Hats, Wang Chung and we can't forget Atomic Tom! Seriously band names are not this cool anymore...

Then this morning when I was looking at the track listing I stumbled upon the hilarious music video the cast made for the movie to the tune "Don't You Want Me Baby". Its easily one of the funnier videos I've seen in a while, especially since about half way through they start reenacting some of the great movie scenes from the 80s. Some of them off the top of my head that I remember are: Ghostbusters, Little Shop of Horrors, Terminator, Caddyshack, Twins, Friday 13th, Cocktail, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Dirty Dancing and Ferris Buehler's Day Off (the list should include about 30 more movies)

Take a look:

Bruno Mars - It Will Rain

"If you ever leave me baby, leave some morphine at my door
'Cause it would take a whole lot of medication
To realize what we used to have,
We don't have it anymore."

Last week my friends and I went to go see the new Twilight movie (its totally okay to judge.. I would too!) and well as expected the movie was.... TERRIBLE. But I will give it this, the soundtrack was pretty enjoyable. Especially this following song by Bruno Mars. Its called "It Will Rain" and well its pretty legit.

As legit as a pop song written for Twilight could be... but seriously, not bad Bruno not bad at all.

A Win is a Win!

A win is a win and nothing is more true about my Jets this year. We are not making it easy or pretty but we did eeek out a win yesterday.... Big thanks to my man Plaxico for making this catch and saving our season.

Next stop, Washington Redskins this weekend and yes I will be there and yes we better put another win in!

J-E-T-S (forever... ha)

9 Year Old Crazy Train Cover

Yes I just typed those words. And yes its as amazing as it sounds. Justin Bieber Who?

I'm Back!

Sorry for the lack of posts last week, very busy with the Thanksgiving holiday. Yet good things is that I have a ton to talk about and will be back here today and will spit it all out.

I will start here with the song that I think I may have listened to 300 times this past week. No surprise that Florence + the Machine's new album has been in heavy rotation as of late, but I almost missed the last cut on the album. Then I heard it and my life changed.

Just amazing...

"And I would give all this and heaven too,
I would give it all if only for a moment.
That I could just understand the meaning of the world you see,
'Cause I've been scrawling it forever,
But it never makes sense to me at all"

Kelly Clarkson....Welcome Back!

You can't not like Kelly Clarkson. I'm sorry but you can't. I've had numerous conversations with people with very wide musical tastes, but one thing everyone can agree on is that this girl can sing! She basically was thrown out into the music world through that little American Idol show and never ever looked back. She has some of the best songs of my generation under her belt and from the looks of it, she is not close to stopping. Mad respect in my book.

Well the girl is back with a new song and well... dare I say it? Catchiest one yet? I have a feeling this will be the first hit of 2012. Welcome back Kelly!!

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stand a little taller, doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone"

Christmas List Extended

My small Christmas list filled with a few books, headphones and other small odds and ends has just been extended. Adele is about to release a DVD of her concert at Albert Hall and well I must have it. Must Must MUST!

That is all my begging for the day. If you need to know why I want it to badly, take a peek at the video below. Can't wait!!!

Real Life Mario Karts

This could possibly be the coolest video that I have seen in a long time. There was a time in college when I went on a pretty long undefeated run on Mario Kart. I as the princess (obviously) would destroy anyone who came in my path. I took no prisoners.

Which is why I find this next video so awesome. In anticipation of the new release of  Mario Kart 7 on December 4th Nintendo tried to recreate some of the original magic and tapped the boys over at West Coast Customs to recreate some of the original cars.

haha Love it!

Rocky.... The Musical?

Sylvester Stallone wants to make Rocky into a musical....

And that ladies and gentlemen is the worst news I've heard all day.

Enjoy your evening.

Billy Joel - Lullaby

"I promised I would never leave you
And you should always know
Where ever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away"

During this part of the documentary I definitely cried. I can't not when listening to this song.... its so beautiful. Yes Billy is known for his up beat songs like Uptown Girl, Piano Man and Captain Jack but there is something so lovely when he slows it down and just sings. So sweet....

The Last Play at Shea

On Saturday afternoon I watched a documentary that feels like it was almost perfectly crafted for me. It was amazing! It was called "The Last Play at Shea" and it was about the last concert that Billy Joel put on at Shea Stadium and the history that both he, baseball and music has shared with that magical venue. It talked all about the Beatles, about the early days of baseball at Shea, the good times the bad, and was all set to the background of Billy's last performance there. It was magical.

Its going to be playing on Showtime a lot. And if you are a fan of music (especially of Billy's) and love sports its one for you. Check out the trailer below. I get chills even watching that...

Emelie Sande

I absolutely love this song. It came across the radio today while I was out running errands and I've just spent the last hour tracking it down. I've never heard of Emelie before but you can bet I will be trying to find out more about her today. For now listen to her song called "Daddy" which obviously stands for a drug or addict of some sort...

"He pulled you closer said he'll never let go
You couldn't trust him but you never said no
In that moment he made you forget how it feels when he's gone"

daaaamn girl.

Florence + The Machine - Saturday Night Live

Yesterday before I went into work for a few hours I was able to catch up on Saturday Night Live. Glad I did, because one of my favorites Florence and the Machine were the musical guests and well she killed it. I downloaded her new album a few weeks ago and it is quite impressive. This girl has got some pipes, and the best part.... its all pretty natural and effortless. Just the way I like it.

Hope that everyone had a fantastic weekend (I know I did) and hope you have a wonderful holiday week planned ahead. Mine will look a lot like this...
work>clean>work>mom comes>cook>serve>eat>play>mom leaves>work>rest.

All and all should be a great week... enjoy the video below!

15 Million Views in One Week

Last Friday November 11th Katy Perry premiered her new video for "The One That Got Away".

Today (one week later...) it has over 15 million views.

Seriously?!?

I mean is the song catchy? Of course. But 15 million views in one week??? The most any Phish video has on youtube is roughly 500,000. Something is wrong with the world.

Short Day Today

Welcome to yet another Friday! Yay we made it!

Today is going to be a short but sweet day for me. I've worked entirely way too many hours this week (not to mention a return here Sunday afternoon) and today they are testing all 200+ fire alarms in the building. So as you can imagine I will be getting out of here sooner than later.

So sorry, I don't have much for you today. I do have headphones in and am listening to raging music all day long to try and drowned out these alarms. So I'll give you a small playlist of artists that have come across so far:

In alpha order because thats how it shows up on my ipod.

Adele
Amos Lee
Avett Brothers
Bob Marley
Counting Crows

The Human Experience

This video made by the people over at PostSecret (which if you don't know them by now, well you should fix that). This video to me proves that the human experience is nothing short of fascinating.

Its amazing to think about what we all have hidden deep within...

Truth.

New Mumford & Sons!

Here is a new one from my boys Mumford & Sons called "Ghosts That We Knew". Its very somber but pretty fitting for this busy rainy day. Made me just stop for a moment and listen, which is what we all need to do sometimes....

Okay now that that's done, its back to running around like a crazy person!

Rumor Has It/Someone Like You

Last night I was able to watch Glee before passing out cold on my couch. The episode ended with one of the best mash-ups I have ever heard. And yes I may be biased due to my love of all things Adele.

Check out the combo of Rumor Has It and Someone Like You. Exactly the reason I love this show... (oh that and I'm a musical theater geek. Blame my parents on that one....)

Live or Let Die - Guns N' Roses

Last night while watching a recent interview with Guns N Roses front man Axl Rose they showed a video of the band doing "Live or Let Die" from a recent concert and it instantly brought me back to 1991. Yes I was 9. My older brother was a huge Guns N Roses fan and I remember stealing his album and listening to their songs over and over again. I was memorized. There just wasn't another band like them out at the time.

(This also reminds me of one of my families favorite arguments. We were driving to my Aunt's house and my older brother tried to convince my Dad that Slash was a better guitarist than Jimmy Page. I remember my Dad almost drove off the side of the road in laughter.... still hands down one of my favorite moments ever...)

Anyways, I think their cover of Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney is one of the better covers ever. It just suits Guns N Roses so well.

Lets take a look back into their prime and remember how good this band was/is.

Dear Lady. I Want Your Job!

Check out this employee from Christie's Auction House who was able to pose with Pete Townshend's 1985 "Live Aid" guitar before a recent auction.

Not a bad job lady...Not a bad job at all.

Life Is Beautiful

This song very simply sums up my feelings about the world these days...

"Let's go drifting through the trees;
Let's go sailing on the sea
Let's go dancing on the juke-join floor
And leave our troubles all behind, have a party
So easily forgotten, are the most important things
Like the melody and the moonlight in your eyes
And a song that lasts forever
Each song getting better all the time
Cuz Life is beautiful, life is wondrous
Every star above is shining just for us
Life is beautiful, on a stormy night
Somewhere in the world the sun is shining bright..."

How can you not feel good about the world with these types of songs? Thats right... you can't!

Guaranteed

I can't even remember at this point how many times I've posted this song but I just don't care. Its the lyrics here that take me for a ride, and well its one of my favorites. If I can live my life by these words I'd be happy.

"Everyone I come across, in cages they bought
They think of me and my wandering but I'm never what they thought
I've got my indignation but I'm pure in all my thoughts
I'm alive...

Wind in my hair, I feel part of everywhere
Underneath my being is a road that disappeared
Late at night I hear the trees, they're singing with the dead
Overhead...

Leave it to me as I find a way to be
Consider me a satellite, forever orbiting
I knew all the rules but the rules did not know me
Guaranteed"

Whoops

Last night was not pleasant. I spilled some things on my floor, went to clean them up and slammed my head against my kitchen bar.

And now they are literally building a new desk in the back office. Promise, head is not hurting.... :)

I'll be back.

Explosions in the Sky

This is the kind of music that in my opinion spreads across to fans of almost any genre. If you are not familiar with the band Explosions in the Sky, I beg of you to take a few minutes out of your day and take a listen to the next video. They are a band that plays mostly highly emotional instrumental music. And what I mean by that is, their songs without the use of lyrics has the ability to craft a perfect story in your mind. It has ups and downs, its powerful and mind blowing without even trying.

There is a rumor that this next song "Your Hand In Mine" tells the story of a 12 year old boy who sneaks out of home one night to go hold the hand of the girl that he likes, before she moves away the next day.

Take some time, and go on a musical journey today. I promise you its worth it.

Hunger Games Trailer

I stop your day to bring you one of the more exciting trailers that I've seen in a long while. The Hunger Games is a book by Suzanne Collins that is finally being adapted for the big screen. Its one of my favorite books and unlike most I do have high hopes for this movie.

Take a look at the trailer.

And yes this is only the second time today that I have had time to stop and breathe. Must. Keep. Moving.

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I did (with the exception of a few hours that I will not talk about last night) mine was great. I relaxed, hung out with great people, enjoyed the beautiful weather. Zero complaints coming out of here.

This week is going to be nothing short of insane. Work is surely going to rule my life, and hopefully I'll have a few moments to pop on here and show you whats on my mind.

For starters here is a video that made my morning. A baby that gets soothed by the sounds of Biggie? Yes please!

Have a great day!

Best Character on Television

Ron Swanson is easily the best character on tv these days. If you are not watching Parks & Recreation I urge you to change that immediately! Need another reason?

Here is a quote from last nights episode, where all the characters were engaged in a Model UN.

Andy: I just traded Finland's army to Kenya for fifty lions. Thats pretty good, right?
April: Yeah...but also armies are pretty good at protecting countries.
Andy: Yeah, but so are lions. And you don't have to pay them!

Truth.

Live Forever - Oasis

"Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breath
Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are going to live forever..."

Again, I almost forgot for a moment how great this next song is. I have talked before about my love for Oasis, I've even dedicated an entire day to them here on the blog. But this next one is an oldie... but quite the good one!

Its called "Live Forever" and it was written by Noel Gallagher for their debut album Definately, Maybe which was released in 1994 (wow...I feel super old right now). Its widely considered one of their best songs to date, and well I must agree. Its a pretty perfectly crafted song. Enjoy!

Time of Your Life

We all know this song by Green Day. But when Billie Jo played it for Will Ferrell during his Mark Twin Awards Celebration it was just magical. I remember my little brother texted me that evening with the words...

"I hope I do something in my life that this man shows up and plays this song just for me"

I laughed at first. And then thought... you know what you are right. Its quite the perfect song for a lifetime of achievement.

Enjoy the stripped down version.

Pinkerton - Weezer

Someone recently told me that Pinkerton by Weezer was one of their most favorite albums of all time. Anytime I hear this as a music fan I feel the obligation to go back and give it a really good listen to try and hear just what they are saying.

Okay here is the background on the album. Its the second album after the ever so popular debut album Weezer. It was a big departure from the pop rock sound they hit the airwaves with. Its much darker, much more guitar heavy, and well much more to my liking. Many songs on the album were written when Rivers Como was studying at Harvard, which makes sense when you start listening to the lyrics and the themes they present.

Here is my take:

Well. After spending a good amount of time over the last day or two going back over this album, I too admit that  its pretty damn great! Weezer... what happened to you! I forgot that your music used to sound like this, that your songs were crafted with care, with lyrics that actually meant something rather then talking about "Beverly Hills". And while this album has been given such accolades as one of the best. Its still shocking to me that it has yet to move over a million in sales. Its everything that is wrong with the music business. That is for sure.

Check out this song here and tell me that any top pop song on the radio is better.

Try. And again, this is just one of a handful of really good songs on the album.

So yeah... I'll be re-downloading this album immediately.

Happy Veterans Day!

Happy Veterans Day!

Extra special shout out to both my grandfathers who served, I miss you both!

Every Tim Burton Movie in Two Minutes!

This is amazing!! I love Tim Burton so much! Almost (and I say almost) all of his movies are amazing, creative and well outside the normal box.

Here is a video featuring all 14 of his movies cut together to an impressive tribute. Enjoy!

And side note: if you missed his exhibit at the Modern Museum of Art (MOMA) last year, go check it out on the internet. Easily one of the most impressive exhibits I've ever had the pleasure of seeing with my own eyes!

Jump/Imagine Mash-Up

I can not believe that I'm even writing this post, but here it goes. This mash-up of Van Halen's Jump and John Lennon's Imagine is actually... um.... not bad at all!

Yeah I said it. I'm going to avoid saying any more about it until you take a chance and listen to it.

Meet Blue Jay.

He is the greatest talent to come around in the last 200 years. And little known fact. He is 12. Thats right... 12 years young! At this age he has already studied at Julliard and composed five full length symphonies.

Enjoy this while I contemplate how little I've accomplished in 29 years.

RIP Heavy D

The rap world is mourning the loss of  90s influential rapper Heavy D who passed away yesterday at the age of 44. The leader of 'Heavy D and the Boyz' was well respected by his peers in the hip-hop community, a community that he basically helped mold.

I know that I will never forget this next song. Its easily one of the best rap songs to dance to ever. RIP Heavy D.

Bonus Heavy D fact. He wrote the theme song to In Living Color

Your Smiling Face

"Whenever I see your smiling face I have to smile myself because I love you..."

This has been one of my favorite songs ever since I was a little kid. I have vivid memories of my mother blasting James Taylor throughout the kitchen when she was cooking. I remember her singing and dancing around without a care. James Taylor is one of her favorites. One time for Mothers Day I took her to one of his concerts and we had just an amazing time. He is one of the best live acts that I've ever seen, always sounds just amazing.

Anytime I hear his song or look on my wall and see my moms old "Mud Slide Slim" album it makes me smile.

Enjoy this one.

Journey to the Super Bowl

Hope everyone is having a great day. I'm so busy its crazy... but I'm happy to be. Everything is going really well and I have zero complaints.

Also this video makes me want to make every purchase on my Visa card from here until the Super Bowl.

Busy Day.... Repost!

This week is a busy one. I don't think I'll have many moments to post today... so I'm going to repost one of my favorite stories from about two years ago.

Hope you enjoy. And heed the warning... its long, ridiculous and emotional.

WARNING RIDICULOUSLY LONG EMOTIONAL BLOG POST BELOW.

March 27th, 2010 this date will be burned into my mind for numerous reasons. All of them important all of them deserved their own day, but two moments of this day turned out to be nothing short of life changing. These two moments I know will stay with me...forever.

Early yesterday morning I woke up about 4 hours earlier than I usually do on Saturday mornings. I put on my black stretch leggings, I put my lucky tank top on, a few layers to battle the cold and I made my way out my door to compete in my first ever running race. I know to some this may not be a big deal, but to me you have to understand who I am and where I come from. I do not run. I am not a runner. I can run. I'm capable. But its like swimming, I look like a fool doing it and I usually fail. Which is why this 10k has been taunting me for the last 5 years. Every year it runs all over my neighborhood and I stay inside like a coward and think 6.2 miles? Yeah right. Never ever going to happen. Well this changed last year.

I was laid off by my employer, bored, and took up...yes running. Slowly but surely I started running, and running more and running more. And slowly things in my life started to change. I was healthy again. cut back drastically on the amount of cigs I smoke, and most of all my head was in a better place. With running, I get this release of there is nobody in the world who is in my thought at that moment. Its just me, my sneakers and the road. Yet still the thought of being next to actual "runners" scared all that confidence right out of my body. This is why yesterday was so important.
Yesterday I completed the 6.2 miles of the Ukrops Monument Ave 10k, completely alone (well there were about 39,000 other runners but you know what I mean). I did it by myself. I woke up by myself. I ran by myself. I cheered myself on. I treated myself to a drink after. And I and me alone was the only thing affecting the outcome of yesterdays race. Why did I do it this way? For a few reasons. I had no expectations. Nobody waiting for me at a certain corner. I was going to disappoint or make happy nobody other than myself. Which is the point of running right? Personal victories?

Well the outcome? I finished 6.2 miles in under 50 minutes. WTF!?! My time was easily better than anything I could have imagined or dreamed of. I couldn't believe it when I crossed the finish line. I felt amazing. Satisfied. My legs were jelly, but my mind was on fire. I had felt as if something had come into my body and finished that last 1.2 miles for me when my body said no. I had no idea what it was but the energy and feelings that I had finishing yesterday was satisfaction times 5. I proved to myself that if I did put my mind to something it could happen. But all day yesterday I was still reeling from my time. I just couldn't believe I ran that fast, I knew it was cold but really? Still was amazed.

It was about 6pm last night when I picked up my phone and read this email from my dear dear friend Amy. "Eva died. I am SO PROUD of you for running today and appreciating every breath.".

My world stopped for a moment. I was getting ready to walk out the door and meet two of my good friends for celebratory beers when all of a sudden this bomb was dropped and then the beginning of the day, the under 50 min run, the mind on fire, the feeling of awesomeness started to all make sense. Eva....Eva. Eva. Eva.

Meet Eva. She is by far the most inspirational, lovely, beautiful person that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing but never ever speaking to or meeting in person. Through her journal entries in her blog I feel like I have been living with her fighting the fight with her her to stay just alive and continue her journey for the last few months.

I was introduced to Eva and her blog "65 Red Roses" by my good friend Amy who works here in Richmond with one of the greatest organizations the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and every day she works hard to make CF stand for "Cure Found". Every day she comes across stories of people who usually are much much younger than I am who are battling this horrible horrible disease. If you are not familiar with CF I highly suggest you research it, then do what you can to support people living with this disease.

Eva was an inspiration to anyone who is living with CF. Ava would have turned 26 next week. 26. She had been living with CF for her entire life. She had somehow managed to keep a brave face while faced with double lung transplants, horrible diagnoisis's and year after year of failed treatments. Yet she created her blog a few years ago to share her personal "little victories". Here is her statement:

"I am positively ecstatic about my future. I feel like happiness radiates out of my pores. Even when my anti-rejection medications have me shaking like a leaf, I know that it will get better. I am well and able to run, skip and cross-country ski. I have so many big plans for the future but for now I have so many little plans, so many tiny victories. This journal is now a place to celebrate those tiny victories. May there be many more to come!"

Amy introduced me to her blog a few months ago (she has been following Eva for over 2 years). I remember that I was reading it for a few weeks every morning. She would talk about her boyfriend, her crazy fire red hair, her sister and her parents that absolutely adored her, the movie she was working on. She would talk about her future, her life, but most of all would talk about LOVE. You see LOVE. Is what was keeping Eva going. The love of everyone around her, of her internet friends who she had searched out to find "other people with CF who understood her" she just loved to LOVE to everyone in her life.

That is why the morning of February 11, 2010 was so hard. That morning Eva posted this video below (warning on the sad sad subject matter of the vide0). Eva shared with us that morning that she was losing her battle with CF. That really there was nothing left for doctors to do but make her feel comfortable. Yet she wasn't here that morning to make us feel sad for her, she did it like she always did, with the message of inspiration of hope of most of all LOVE. For you see the most important message she gives in this video is that "the greatest thing you will ever learn is just to LOVE and be LOVED in return" (Eden Ahbez).

This video was recorded on February 11th. For over the last month Eva has been updating us on her journey. The good (her getting a diploma), the bad (more failed tests) and the ugly (the drugs and treatments shes being going through). Every morning I wake up and check her blog to see how she is doing, to see if she made it through the night, and most importantly if she is still Eva.

As I said above, Eva lost her battle with CF yesterday morning. Probably around the same time that my legs were turning to jelly during my running race. Its ironic that the slogan for the CF foundation is "Breathe" and its all that I could think of doing yesterday morning. Breathing in and out. One step at a time. Just like Eva. Breathing in and out. For one last time.

I would like to thank Eva and her family and friends for sharing her inspirational journey with the world. If you have time today I would go to her journal by clicking HERE, read her thoughts, her story and her journey of life. She is an inspiration that I know I will never forget.

So yesterday March 27th will go down as just one of those days I will never, ever forget.

May you finally rest easy Eva.

RIP Andy Rooney

Sad news hit over the weekend when we learned that Andy Rooney passed away. Man was 92 years old. Many know him as the old man at the end of 60 Minutes who would complain about anything and everything that was bothering him. Well I loved it. This man really just said what was on his mind, and enjoyed doing it until the very end of his life. He was only retired for a mere six weeks when he passed.

Here is a video from one of my favorite rants he did about music.
RIP Andy. I will miss you and your crazy stories about the "junk you spend your money on".

Christina Perri "The Scientist"

Lets get back to some good music shall we? I know I've talked a lot about Christina Perri before on this blog, but what can I say... I absolutely adore her. This next video is one of the ways that I fell in love with her voice. It was just her sitting behind a piano singing her heart out on youtube before she hit it big. It was then her "Jar of Hearts" landed on a FOX TV show, and well we all know what happens then. Record contracts, albums, tours. All well deserved for this young singer.

Here is her doing a cover of Coldplay's "Scientist". Its just stunning. Again, if I sounded like that and could play the piano I would lock myself in a room and sing all day long.

Need A Good Laugh?

You are welcome.

Josh Ritter - Kathleen

Dear Josh Ritter, thank you for making this song. Its the only time in my life I've ever wanted my name to be Kathleen rather than Katie. Its such a beautiful song from one of my favorite singer-songwriters. Especially this performance of it live from back in 2008. (You know there is something wrong in the world when this only has 23,000 views on youtube in comparison to Justin Bieber videos which get 30 million.) Either way take a moment and enjoy the beauty of this song and these lyrics. This Kathleen must be a pretty special lady...

"All the other girls here are stars.... you are the Northern Lights
They try to shin in through your curtains... you're too close and too bright
They try and they try but everything that they do
Is the ghost of a trace of a pale imitation of you"
*swoon*

I remember this quote was given to me in a card after I graduated from college.

Its always stuck with me.

Come Waste Your Time With Me

Just a few short weeks and I'll be off for another Phish adventure. Really looking forward to the NYC New Years trip this year for a few reasons. First its my best friends Bachelorette (spelling?) party, second its New Years Eve, third NYC is one of my favorite places in the universe, and forth, do I even have to mention the band at this point?

Here is "Waste" from last years NYE show (that's also where I took the picture above).

"Don't want to be an actor pretending on the stage
Don't want to be a writer with my thoughts out on the page
Don't want to be a painter 'cause everyone comes to look
Don't want to be anything where my life's an open book

A dream its true
But I'd see it through
If I could be...
Wasting my time, with you

Don't want to be a farmer working in the sun
Don't want to be an outlaw always on the run
Don't want to be a climber reaching for the top
Don't want to be anything where I don't know when to stop

...come waste your time with me
come waste your time with me..."

Radiohead Tour Dates!

Radiohead
Radiohead announced this morning that they are about to embark on a tour that will take them across the US and the UK throughout 2012. And while the closest place they are playing to Richmond is Atlanta, it still makes me happy that they are out touring.

Still one of my favorite live concerts I've ever been to. They sure know how to put on quite the show.

Happy Monday!

Welcome to the start of yet another week. I don't know about any of you out there but I had a great weekend. Laughed, discovered, celebrated, cheered, and smiled. Thats pretty much the rotation I was working with.

I promise some good things today, I'll have some time after this staff meeting now but until then I'll hold you over with one of my favorites... ever.

Bon Iver? Monday? Yes please!

Today

In all honesty I should just give up on today. I mean really, there are 3 people in the office. None of us are getting any type of work done. We keep just finding stupid things and making each other laugh. I guess this is what happens when the boss is away... the little mice sure will play!

But seriously, we all work really hard here so every once in a while to have a really lax day and just sit around exchanging stories about weekend plans, reality television or figuring out what time the others will leave. (So far, 2pm is the latest..and that's me!)

So yeah, take a look at the picture above. Have a laugh and enjoy your day!

Decemberists

"Lazy will the loam come from its hiding
And return this quiet searcher to the soil"

The Decemberists are quickly gaining more and more airtime in my world every day. Their entire album is one of those that you put on, at the first track take a seat on your couch and lay back and listen. Every song is unique, no two sound the same, their voices perfectly match each other and of course guess what else I love about them... the lyrics. "So raise a glass to the turning of the season, watch it as it arcs towards the sun".  Their songs craft wonderful stories in your head, stories that you want to follow, stories that make you believe in the band.

This next song is one that I think should be played a lot. Over and Over and Over.

Flaming Lips Live

Have you ever seen the Flaming Lips perform live? If not it should be on your bucket list. I mean does this look like fun or what?

I Ate All Your Halloween Candy

Happy Friday! We all made it through yet another week, and its finally back to being the weekend. If this weekend can be half as good as last weekend was... I'm sure to have a great time.

I've already started the day out smiling after sleeping in and waking up to this video. Pure hilarity. Leave it to Jimmy Kimmel to challenge his audience to tell their kids they ate all their Halloween candy and film it!

Genius.

Priceless reactions below. (The last two are my favorite)

D-PAN Students "We Are Going To Be Friends"

I love this! Check out a bunch of students from the Deaf Professional Arts Network (DPAN) do the classic White Stripes song "We Are Going To Be Friends"

Just too good for any more words.

Truth.

Love Some Nora Jones

Every since Nora Jones hit the music scene and basically smacked us all in the face with her talent I've been a fan. If I were to have a career in "the business" I would like it to be like Noras. She is well respected for her talent, she is showcased the way real artists should, and she plays well within her comfort zone. She just seems to be in a sweet spot in her career and well that's probably pretty tough in the industry.

It doesn't hurt that her songs are amazing!

Instant Dance Party

Stop. Now dance.

I ask you to try and not dance during this next song.

Impossible.

Dreaming Tree

"Long before these crowded streets here stood my dreaming tree"

Say what you would like about Dave Matthews and his band but I'm tell you, I have a slight obsession with Dave Matthews song writing abilities. He seems to tap into the right emotions at the right time. His songs sound, personal and real. Yeah he talks about death, dying a lot... but he also talks about living and loving a whole lot to. If this man just wrote all his songs into book form I would be first on line to buy it. Just saying.

I mean who else writes things like this...

"You seek up an emotion and sometimes your well is dry"
"The touch of you is hard to remember, but like that touch I know no other"
"If you hold on tight to what you think is your thing, you may find you're missing all the rest"
"The crimes between us grow deeper"
"If you could keep me floating for a while, I'll get back to you"
"Lean upon me, I'll lean upon you. And we'll be okay"
"Celebrate we will, for life is short but sweet for certain"
"We'll turn this better thing into the best"
"The future is no place, to place your better days"
"I was just wondering if you could come along? Hold up my head when my head won't hold on..."

I also love it when he just grabs a guitar and sits with is good friend Tim Reynolds and just belts out classics like this.
