Carter Beauford

Dave Matthews Band is another band that you either love or you hate. I tend to stay on the love side due to their lyrics, live shows, use of horns but most of all the drumming. Have you ever taken the time to break down the way Carter Beauford plays the drums? Oh you haven't? Let me help you out real quick.

According to him his unusual playing style has attributed to his use of left-hand lead on a right-handed kit to playing his own kit in front of a mirror as a kid in an attempt to emulate some of his favorite drummers. He unknowingly set up his drums in reverse of whichever performer he was emulating in an attempt to match the images completely. This helped him become completely ambidextrous at a very young age, even if it was by accident.
