Happy Monday and welcome back to the work week. Well welcome back to those of us that work at places that don't actually give today off. To those of you home celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr Day please live it up for the rest of us. Stay in bed an extra hour. Watch those tv shows you miss during the day. Go out and get an extended lunch (maybe even throw a beer in with it). Why not.
But for serious. Be sure to at least think about MLK, Jr. at least once today. There is a reason we celebrate this man. You all know the story, no need to retell it here. Just enjoy the words and speeches below and be happy that the world saw someone like this man.
"When I speak of love I am not speaking of some sentimental and weak response. I am not speaking of that force which is just emotional bosh. I am speaking of that force which all of the great religions have seen as the supreme unifying principal of life. Love is somehow the key that unlocks the door which leads to ultimate reality."
"A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence and toughness multiplies toughness in a decending spiral of destruction... The chain reaction of evil -- hate begetting hate, wars producing more wards -- must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation".
