Phish - Halloween 1996 - Atlanta, GA

This show marked the third of the legendary Halloween shows in which Phish dressed up in a "musical costume" by performing an album from another artist in its entirety. In past years they had performed The Beatles White Album and Dark Side of the Moon from Pink Floyd. The band, including a killer horn section and legendary Santana percussionist Karl Perazzo unveiled a complete performance of the Talking Heads Remain In Light.

This performance in 1996 is seen by many phans as the dawn of a new era for Phish because of the ablum's groove-based, funk-oriented sound. After this performance, the band traded in their complex, busy improvisational style for a simpler groove-based beats and riffs. The performance is noted by the band as their favorite Halloween performance ever, and is considered by many phans (including myself) to be the bands most important Halloween performance ever.

Check out the video below where an old school Kurt Loder (yeah remember him...) has a report from this "not to be missed show" this is probably one of the five times in the past 20 years Phish has been mentioned on that network.
