Okay it would not be Bruce Springsteen Day without "Born to Run". I don't have to tell the story behind this song, I don't even need to say much about it. Everyone knows it. Everyone should love it. So instead I will include some fun facts that I've heard along the way about this particular tune.
-Springsteen played this for the first time in May of 1974 when he opened up for Bonnie Raitt at Harvard Square.
-There was a movement to make this the official state song of NJ. (It didn't work)
-Springsteen choose this song as the album title after rejecting other names that included War And Roses, The Hungry and The Hunted, American Summer and Sometimes at Night.
-"Highway 9" refers to Route 9 in NJ which went through Springsteen's hometown of Freehold.
-This song came at the crossroads of Springsteen's career. His first 2 albums sold poorly, and Columbia Records might have dropped him if he did not produce a hit.
-Bruce must of been born to run because once he ran and jumped over the walls of Graceland to meet Elvis in 1976 when he was on tour in Memphis. (He never actually got to meet him, security stopped him at the door).
-This was performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2009.
